Color or Black and White?

When I first began drawing, I used black and white.  Why?  Well, color never turned out looking right.  It never looked realistic to me.  You may ask once again, "Why?".  I would simply answer, "I cannot use shading when I used colored pencils.  It takes away the realism and depth."  Now, when you think of using colored pencils, do you think of the ones you used as a 5-year-old as you colored in your coloring book?  No, you don't use those, but I thought you did.  If you have read my Recourses and Supplies page, one of the supplies are Prismacolor colored pencils.  These pencils are very expensive and high quality artist colored pencils.  They are designed for your artwork and not for a 5-year-old's coloring book.

It takes time and practice, but you can have depth and shading with these colored pencils.  I may give some more posts on using colored pencils as I go along, but if you want to look on YouTube or somewhere else, don't be surprised if you end up using blue to make grass.

If you are new to drawing, I would stick with using a regular pencil until you think you have it down pat.  Then, you will be ready to move on to colored pencils.  It is difficult and sometimes frustrating, but artists don't give up!

Huge Word War at Go Teen Writers!

I just found out that there is a word war going on from today until Friday!  Make sure to go to Go Teen Writers and check it out!  *smiles*

Story Snippet: Galaxy Connectors

So, I finally decided to post a portion of my book *smiles*.  I will try to post a snippet every few weeks, if possible.

Chapter 1 -

I breathed in a sigh of relief as I looked at the clock on my nightstand, though, I didn’t really need to.  The clock was already talking to me.  Earlier that morning I had tried to get up, but I just couldn’t get my body to listen.  Next thing I knew, I was out – asleep.  For the second time, I attempted at sitting up.  This time I had the energy.  I was able to not only sit up, but stand up and walk to my closet.  In front of my closet, I stomped by foot on the grayish/bluish carpet.  The room shook a little, but I was used to it.  Hangers moved across my closet making a screeching-like noise.  A hanger started swinging back and forth when I took the contents of a green and blue striped shirt from its place.  I then walked over to my dresser, my feet sinking into the silky carpet.  After a series of stomps, a wooden dresser drawer creaked open.  Inside, there were denim shorts, capris, and jeans.  I quickly grabbed the top pair of capris and threw them on.  Watching the clock, I looked in the mirror as I braided my long blonde hair with natural brown highlights.  Since my hair was layered, I had hairs which had frayed.  I snatched the container of hair gel, untwisted the cap, and rubbed some in my hair.  When it look decent enough to walk around in the public, I slid my feet into my green tennis shoes and tied the laces.  I quickly took my diary with the initial “C” (which stood for Castilla) on the front cover and my book bag from my bed.  I then opened my door slowly. As the rusty hinges creaked, I switched the light, putting everything back in place.
I raced down the set of stairs three at a time, but it didn’t bother me.  The gel insoles in my tennis shoes absorbed the shock.  I jogged through the house effortlessly almost as if I were flying.  I was able to get my hands on a roll before I dashed out the door.  When I turned off the driveway and into the street, I slowed my pace to a fast walk because of heavy car traffic.  I had 15 minutes to get to the school, in my classroom, books for first block on my desk.
Should I take the back way to the school? The back way was a dirt path, so no one would be on it.  When I came to the point where the dirt path forked off from the main road, I hesitated.  I looked at the path in front of me, then at the road full of traffic.  That doesn’t look good…  I rotated back to the right, facing towards the tunnel-like dirt path ahead of me.  I sprinted forward, hoping to make up some time.
Branches scraped against my face, arms and ankles causing a stinging sensation.  I used to walk this path every day to school when I was younger, but not while running or being in a hurry.  Blood was dripping down my ankles and into my shoes, dampening my socks.  Five minutes went by, 10 minutes and there it was, the school.  I don’t that I have ever been happier to arrive at school in my entire life!
I jogged through the front doors and straight into the bathroom, the door opening and closing on its own.  I swiftly cleaned myself up using water and a few paper towels.  I also opened a box with a red cross on the top.  Inside, I took a few tannish colored Band-Aids and placed them over my bigger scrapes.  After putting the first aid kit away, I casually walked out of the bathroom and down through the hallway.
Well, that's all for today.  Keep checking to find more...

Camp NaNoWriMo

If I haven't told anyone yet, I am involved in Camp NaNoWriMo this year *jump up and down excitedly*, so I will be really busy writing away.  In the month of July, I am going to slow down on my blog a bit, so I will only be posting about 2 to 3 times a week.  I will try to keep my blog as updated as possible.  Keep drawing and writing, everyone!

Interview with Alea Harper :)

Hi everyone!  Today I have had the opportunity to interview Alea Harper.  Yay!!!!  She is a dedicated writer and a Christian!  For more information about her visit her blog at

Hi Alea! So glad to have you with me today and thank you for your time. So, what do you wish to do as a blogger?
Awww! Thank you so much for asking me! It is my first interview *giggles excitedly*. I wish to share with others my love for writing, reading, and Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior!

That is a wonderful goal! Being a writer myself, I understand the struggles of getting words onto a page. What inspires you the most to write?
Hmm...that is a very difficult question. I think its when I read really great writing. Sometimes, I'll write a fanfiction story about it. Other times, it will inspire me to write my own story. Another thing that can inspire me is movie previews. Typically, they will leave me hanging, so I write a story that is sort of based on that genre. Music also inspires me, particularly movie soundtracks!

That inspires me too! What are ways you like to encourage and share your hobby and talent of writing?
Well, I love to do word wars with my writer friends. When we are finished, we tell each other our word count and the last sentence we wrote. We each tell each other that we did a great job and sometimes, how we liked the sentence! I also like to encourage other writers, some I may not know, through my blog!

Sounds like great fun! Now, I have heard you are doing Camp NaNoWriMo. How do you like it and what would you say to others who are interested?
Camp NaNoWriMo is EPIC! If you are interested, do yourself a favor and sign up! It is so amazing! But, since it is in the middle of July, I would encourage you to wait until next April and/or July, when it happens again!
Great! Now you have gotten me excited *giggles*. What is your favorite part about writing?
My favorite part is probably writing the first draft.

Thank you so much! I have really enjoyed interviewing today! Good luck on your blog and Camp NaNoWriMo! :)
Thank you for having me! I'm so excited to have my first interview! *Giggles super excitedly*

Happy Fourth of July!

Hey everyone!  Today I am not posting about art but about Fourth of July.  It is a special occasion to celebrate the birth of our country the United Stated of America!  Now, maybe you are having a pool party or watching fireworks today but maybe those things can inspire you to draw.  See if you can draw something to celebrate the Fourth of July.  It could be an American flag or a fireworks show, just remember to have fun with it.  Happy Fourth of July :)
